Walk into many pubs today and you’ll see tap handles designed to look "crafty." They have the edgy fonts and the bright colors, but if you trace the ownership back, you’ll often find a multi-billion-pound corporate giant at the end of the line.
We’re the counter-culture to that.
As a dedicated taproom, we’ve made it our mission to curate a selection that is 100% independent. We champion the breweries that stay rooted in their craft. When you drink at one of the few true taprooms in Brighton like ours, you know that your money is staying right here in Sussex. It’s paying for a brewer’s rent in Worthing, a delivery driver’s lunch in Kemp Town, and the next experimental batch of hops that will blow your mind next month.
Hand Brew Co: From a Tower in Kemp Town to the World
One of our absolute favorites to feature on our rotating taps is Hand Brew Co. Their story is pure Brighton gold. It started at the Hand in Hand pub in Kemp Town: a legendary "corner boozer" that has been serving the community since 1850.
In the late 80s, the landlord literally lowered a brewery through the roof to create one of the smallest tower breweries in the world. Today, Hand Brew Co has expanded to a larger production site in West Worthing, but their soul remains firmly in that Kemp Town tower.
They specialize in what they call "high-quality, sessionable beers for every palate." Take their Shaka pale ale, for example. It’s vegan-friendly, incredibly consistent, and designed to be the kind of beer you can sit with all evening. They also run the "Art You Can Drink" range, where 20% of profits go to charity. That’s the kind of independence we stand for: beer that tastes great and does good.
UnBarred Brewery: The Spirit of "No Rules"
If Hand Brew Co represents the soul of the traditional community pub, UnBarred Brewery represents the wild, creative energy of Brighton’s future. Founded by Jordan Mower in 2014, UnBarred literally started in a shed in Hove.
Jordan’s philosophy was simple: "UnBarred" means no rules and no boundaries. He treated beer like a culinary canvas, inspired by food and deep-south BBQ. After years of "gypsy brewing" at other sites, they finally opened their own brewery and taproom on Elder Place in central Brighton in 2019.
When we pour their Love Language NEIPA, you can taste that "Made of Brighton" ethos. It’s hazy, tropical, and uncompromising. UnBarred isn’t interested in playing it safe; they want to ignite your curiosity. By supporting them, we aren't just selling a beverage; we’re supporting a team that embodies the anti-ordinary spirit of our city.

Independent brewers like those we stock in our Brighton taproom don't have those shackles. They use more hops, better malts, and they give the beer the time it needs to develop.
